About Partha Guha

🧬 Profile

Partha Guha joined the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology at the University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC) in July 2024. He holds both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology from the University of Chittagong. Before joining USTC, he worked as a Research Associate at the Functional Genomics and Proteomics Laboratory (FGPL), where he was involved in several multidisciplinary research projects focused on human disease genetics.

His master’s thesis investigated the complex interaction between arsenic exposure and cardiovascular disease (CVD) development in the Bangladeshi population. In recognition of his research, he received the prestigious National Science and Technology (NST) Fellowship from the Ministry of Science and Education, Bangladesh.

🧪 Projects Worked On

MS Thesis

January 2022 – November 2023
Title: Study on The Interaction of Arsenic Exposure with Genetic Polymorphisms, Mitochondrial DNA Copy Number and Deletions in Cardiovascular Diseases Development
This project examined how polymorphisms in genes associated with arsenic metabolism and oxidative stress correlate with CVD development in arsenic-exposed individuals in Bangladesh. It also compared mitochondrial DNA copy numbers between exposed and unexposed groups to assess mitochondrial dysfunction's role in CVD.

Other Research Projects

Functional Genomics and Proteomics Laboratory, University of Chittagong

Association of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms of Interferon-Inducible Genes (OAS1, MxA, and PKR) with COVID-19 Susceptibility
Studied the genetic association between IFN-inducible gene SNPs and SARS-CoV-2 infection by analyzing genotype frequencies among COVID-19 patients and healthy controls.

Study on p53 Gene Codon 72 Polymorphism and Its Association with Breast Cancer in Bangladesh
Analyzed allele frequency of the codon 72 SNP in p53 among Bangladeshi women with invasive ductal carcinoma and compared with age-matched healthy individuals.

Cross-Sectional Study on Melanocortin-4 Receptor (MC4R) and Leptin Receptor (LEPR) Gene Mutation in Childhood Obesity
Explored gene mutations and expression levels of MC4R and LEPR in Bangladeshi children to determine their role in obesity susceptibility, lifestyle correlation, and potential predictive value.
